Glossary of Rug Terms (W)
Warp Threads
The vertical threads on a rug loom that the threads are woven to. The length of the warp threads determines the finished rug's length, and the end of the warp threads become the fringe of the rug.
Weft Threads
The horizontal threads on a rug loom that push the threads together. The length of the weft threads determines the finished rug's width.
Wilton
A machine loomed rug with a limited colour palette; usually in a repetitive, small pattern. The rug is woven using one long continuous thread that is carried through the backing between tufts.
